Manchester United starts training for tour

Manchester United, minus many of its stars, has begun training for its North American tour with a 59-minute session at the Chicago Fire's home ground before about 1,500 fans in 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) heat.

The Red Devils open their four-match trip in Toronto on Friday against Scottish Premier League side Celtic. After two matches against Major League Soccer sides, it concludes in Houston on July 28 with a match against the MLS All-Stars.
"That will probably be our toughest game," United manager Alex Ferguson said. "It's probably a bigger game for MLS than it is for us. I think you'll find they'll be well motivated because of that. We're used to the fact teams always want to play well against us."
It's Manchester United's third preseason trip to North America since Ferguson became manager in 1986.

"Each time I see an improvement in American soccer," Ferguson said. "The MLS has proven itself now. The performance of the (U.S.) national team helps. They were very credible in their performance in the World Cup, and I think that helped the younger people in the States.
"We know there are millions of kids playing. The MLS has to structure itself so these kids can eventually get to MLS. It'll take time to build a pyramid of soccer so they get to the MLS."
Manchester United was without World Cup participants Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic and Park Ji-sung at training Wednesday. They get 30 days rest before they're required to begin their next season.

Manchester United's English Premier League season begins August 16, when it hosts Newcastle.
The training session, the first on-field event of United's trip, was held in the southwest suburbs of Chicago because the team's new corporate sponsor, AON, is headquartered downtown.

Andy Roddick vs Roger Federer - Wimbledon 2009

Federer holds an 18-2 career advantage over Roddick and comfortably beat the 26-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska in the 2004 and 2005 finals, with Swiss artistry generally trumping American grit each time they have met.
The 2009 edition of Roddick, though, is no longer a big-serving, one-trick pony.

A year ago, the affable American was stuck in an airport lounge and caught on television the scintillating denouement of the final between Federer and Rafael Nadal. That demoralising sight and a soul-searching conversation with wife Brooklyn Decker convinced him things had to change.
Frustrated at the sight of Federer and Nadal hogging the majors, Roddick set to work on his fitness and linked up with new coach Larry Stefanki. That and the weight of years of experience have brought him a new, formidable armoury.
He brutally stifled the menace of Andy Murray in the semi-final, using his massive serve, punching accuracy with his groundstrokes and shrewd advances to the net to dismantle the Scot's game before a devastated nation.
"Brook and I had a lot of talks on if I still thought I could play and at least be towards the top of the game. I definitely openly questioned it at that point," Roddick said. "So this off season, we said, you know what, if you're not gonna be up there, let's at least not wonder. Let's prepare yourself and give yourself every opportunity.
"I did work real hard and was committed, and have been committed from everything to diet to sleep to everything. So I certainly gave myself every opportunity to succeed."
Unfortunately for Roddick, success is second nature to Federer.
These days he claims more records with each passing match, and stands on the cusp of arguably his finest achievement.
Victory on Sunday will see him rewrite the history books by taking his15th grand slam title - passing Pete Sampras on 14 - to provide the most significant piece of evidence yet in the perennial debate about the game's greatest player.
Advocates of Rod Laver, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg and Sampras will have little answer once that particular statistic can be waved in their face.
Federer, 27, has enormous respect for his opponent and a review of the Murray semi-final will show him that getting the mighty Roddick serve back is no longer the only concern.
"I've played him 20 times, so I've had plenty of time to study his game, to understand his game," the Swiss said. "He's always played me also quite differently every single time I've played him. I've had many different looks against Roddick.
"I enjoy how he leaves everything out on the court. I can only marvel at how incredible his serve is. I like playing against him, not only just because of the record."

WARCRAFT - The Next Target from Hollywood?

With Mark Wahlberg's noir video game flick Max Payne debuting atop the box-office chart, Hollywood is once again clamoring to find other game properties to slap on celluloid. It's a risky gamble -- for every Tomb Raider blockbuster lies a thousand House of the Dead flops.
So if you're going to turn a video game into a film, it helps if you're already good at this sort of thing. And it doesn't hurt if you pick as popular a game as possible.
It's no wonder, then, that gamers and cinephiles alike are excited at the news of Spider-Man director Sam Raimi praising the big-screen possibilities of beloved multiplayer game, World of Warcraft. In a spirited MTV article exploring the problems behind video game movies, Raimi weighed in by explaining why games tend to be tougher to turn into compelling flicks than comics.

"In the world of video games, it's usually more of an environment or a scenario, not character-based ... but they certainly could [be better]. There's 'World of Warcraft' -- what an awesome video game! It has such great, adventurous characters in it and such fantastic landscapes and rules. ... You could make a brilliant 'World of Warcraft' movie -- as fine as any of the best superhero movies -- if you had the right writers and directors."

This man has set up a webpage http://robinhood702.com recently to welcome the candidates submitting him a 1 to 3 minutes short script, explaining their difficulties, and reasons why they deserve to be the one.

Once you are the lucky one, Robin Hood 702 will provide an all-expense paid weekend, which includes a true high-roller suite with 24-Hour butler service at a posh Casino, show tickets to the hottest shows in town, spa appointments and meals in the city's finest restaurants. He has made a guarantee that if you're selected, at least half of your bills will get paid no matter what happens at the Blackjack table. The whole event will be documented by the Fox News crews.

I'd discussed this offer with friends, but most of them suspected it is only another form of scam. They believed there must be some criminal motive hidden unrevealed. Hmmm... what can I said? Are we too fear for adventurous? Well, you might ask me back. How about you? Will you submit your script? Hmmm.... I think I will not. May be I'm one of them, fears to adventurous. But, very funny. When it really happen one day, then we will blame ourselves for not participating, losing such a golden opportunity. May be we are too conservative, without seeing any success example, we won't take any action to risk. Therefore, after the lucky one is born, we will most properly turning 180 degree and become very aggressive on searching another opportunity similar to this. Then, unfortunately it is very high chances that many criminals will take this opportunity to set up a trap, and we will easily fall into the real coming scams. (Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not here to convince you joining the event. As mentioned earlier, I won't participate too. Not because I'm debt-free, but just I'm not a good risk taker).

So, I would like to open this topic to you. What do you think? Is this a scam? Will you participate?

5 Common Excuses for Not Exercising

Everybody know and understand well doing exercise is good for us, and we do agree that it should be parts of our daily activities. As initial, after inspired by muscle-man in magazine and TV, we do a lot of planning and searching for many useful guidance and information. We promised to ourselve that we will someday transform our body just like the model in the magazine. So, we bought many equipments, converted our store room, fixed the schedule, joint the gym house and appointed an experience instructor. In the first month, everything just went well.... but, second month, we were a bit shifted from our schedule... and slowly our equipments were laying with dust, store room turned back as it should be, schedule was blank or miss placed.... and our body still remain unshaped. We gave ourselve many excuses for not exercising.

Nike make a marvelous slogan - "Just Do It". Simple, but suums up a lot of things in our life. Even when we know something is good for us or that we should be getting our butt in gear, it can be extremely hard to motivate. We, as a species, have become masters of creating excuses. We find ways of procrastinating and getting out of so many seemingly basic ‘have tos’, ’shoulds’ and ‘need tos’. Unfortunately, the more often we make excuses, the easier it is to perpetuate. Creatures of habit, we get used to things, whether they are good for us or bad for us. A procrastinator myself, I thought it would be good to talk about excuses that are commonly used to get out of exercising. The five excuses below are pretty common, but I’m sure there are tons more out there to poke holes through.

1. I'm too busy recently, and I don't have time for exercise. May be this weekend, I could be free.
This is the absolute worst excuse, in deed very common. In fact, you should make time, in steed of delaying it. And, most properly by weekend, you would have another concrete reason for excuse. If you don’t prioritize exercise, you will never have enough time for it. Once you get used to making time, you’ll realize that you always have the time to fit in a workout. Whether it be squeezing in a brisk walk at lunch, scheduling ‘you time’ in your calendar or developing a daily routine that you can stick to, your time is yours. So use it wisely.

2. I'm too tired, I can't boost up any energy at all.
This is another very common excuses. When we finished our job, the pressure of dressing up and heading to gym was really killing. Most of the times, we would rationalize that missing one or two section would be still fine, or even several days in a row. Actually, this is not true. The reality is, that exercise can get you over ‘being tired’. Exercise is helpful with improving and maintaining stable energy levels throughout the day, regular sleep patterns and overall mood. Exercise also improves regularity and reduces incontinence, which can contribute to a feeling of sluggishness and being tired.

3. I don't feel well, I'm not fit for exercise today.
Well, if you are in the hospital, are excessively nauseous or have a fever, you probably shouldn’t be running a marathon. That said, a cold, allergies, a headache, menstrual pains or just ‘not feeling great’ shouldn’t stop you from breaking a sweat. Is a matter of fact, exercise can sometimes cure some of the most common ailments, including: hangovers and colds. Sweating, a form of detox, allows you to release toxins that are guilty of making you feel under the weather. So next time you have a sniffle, get out there and sweat your sniffles away.

4. It's too early or too late to do exercise.
When I realized I hated coming home to exercise, and could think of a million other things I’d rather do, I decided that I needed to buck up and get up in the morning to get in the workout. Yes, it was painful for two or three days, but now, I wouldn’t go back if you paid me. If you are a morning person, get up and get your exercise groove on in the AM. If you are a night owl, exercise at night (Although it is healthier to exercise in the morning, it is better to get the exercise in at night than to not get it in at all). Be sure, however, to leave a couple of hours in between your workout and going to bed so that you give your body enough ‘downtime’ to transition to sleep time.

5. I'm travelling, not convenient for exercising.
Granted, it can be more challenging to exercise when you are traveling, especially for business trip. But that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise. Here are some useful tips:

  • If you are staying at a hotel, try to stay at one that has a fitness center or gym.
  • If the hotel doesn’t have a gym, walk, jog or run outside. Make sure you bring appropriate clothing for the weather. And don’t forget your sneakers!!! Seriously, forgetting your workout clothes should not be another excuse.
  • Tuck some fitness DVDs into your suitcase. Play them on your laptop and exercise in your room.

So, remember the Nike slogan "Just Do It", don't granted ourselves with those excuses no more.

9 Tips Exercises To Get 6 Pack Abs

Here are the exercises you could do it yourself at home to gain your 6 pack abs.

1. Do Crunches.
Lie on the floor (with or without a mat) and cross your arms in front of your chest. Bend your knees up as far as they go. (Do not place both hands behind your head. Placing both hands behind your head can cause lower back problems in the long run as it places unnecessary stress on that part of your body from pulling on your head and neck.) Another alternative is to cross your arms in front of your chest and lightly place your finger tips behind your ears, without pulling on your neck or ears to help raise you off the floor. Draw in your abdomen towards your spine while inhaling through your nose. Now raise your shoulders (upper torso) towards your knees, using strictly your abdominal muscles. It is very important not to lift your entire back off the floor, as this can cause back strain, and the extended movement does not help you develop six pack abs any faster. The most important part of the crunch is the initial flexing of your abs as you lift your shoulders off of the floor. As soon as you begin lifting off the floor exhale through your mouth, ending with a gasp once your shoulders are off the floor. Then pause for a second once you are at the top of the crunch and exhale the last bit of air from your diaphragm while flexing your abs. The proper breathing and flexing make all the difference. Now lower back down slowly and controlled while inhaling through your nose, just until your shoulder blades touch the ground. Do not let your head touch the ground and repeat.

2. Do Sit Ups.
Lie on the floor, feet on the floor, knees up and fingers placed behind your ears or hands crossed on your chest. Sit all the way up, lifting your lower back off the floor along with your shoulder blades.Lower yourself down. Repeat. Once this becomes relatively easy for you (i.e. you can do a quite a bit with ease) start adding more challenges. Find an incline bench or do these on an exercise ball. Once you "graduate" from that, do weighted sit ups. Hold a weight on your chest while you do these. As these become easier, hold heavier and heavier weights. You might also try lifting your feet off the ground while doing the sit ups or alternating the leg in the air, like pretending to pedal while sitting up. If your hands are behind your head, bring your left knee up to touch your right elbow and then your right knee to the left elbow.

3. Do Leg Lifts.
Lie on the floor, legs straight out, hands at your sides. Lift your legs straight up (not bending your knees at all) until they're at a 90 degree angle (or close). Lower your legs and repeat without letting your legs touch the floor. For more challenge there is equipment at most gyms that will allow you to raise yourself up using your arms as support and dangle your legs. You can perform leg lifts there too. If you're using this piece of equipment, you can make it easier by just raising your knees to your chest. It's more difficult to raise your legs to a horizontal position with your legs straight. This helps firm up the lower abdomen. If you're truly a monster, try doing leg lifts with a medicine ball hanging from your feet. Or hang from a pull up bar and raise your legs in front of you all the way up to the bar. Still too easy?

4. Do Jackknife Sit Ups.
Lie down flat on the floor. Place your hands on the ground to your sides for balance; you can pick them up as you get used to the movement. Simultaneously raise your knees and torso so that your knees and face meet on an imaginary line extending from your pelvis to the ceiling. You should be able to kiss your knees at the top of the motion. Your legs will naturally fold bringing your feet towards your hips, much like a jackknife. Lie back down (i.e. "spread out") and repeat. Place a weight between your feet when you think you can handle it. What's that? More?

5. Do V-ups.
Lie on the floor, legs straight out, hands on the floor but this time extended out over your head. Simultaneously raise legs and torso. Don't bend your knees! What kind of V would it be if you bend your knees? Reach with your hands toward the raised feet. Touch your feet if possible (will require some flexibility). Relax, return to starting position and repeat. Add weight between feet to match your taste.

6. Static Hold and Side Statics.
Put your body into the push-up position but with your elbows on the floor, and your whole body flat. This position is known as the static hold position and it trains your core (including your abs) to hold the body in place which is the real purpose of your abs. Hold this position for as long as possible, but you should be aiming to start off with at least 45 seconds, while seasoned ab workers known to achieve over 20 minute static holds. To perform the side static hold roll onto one side of your body and lift into the same position as before, but this time only one arm will be on the ground with the other arm pointed straight up the air and your non-weight bearing leg resting on your bottom leg. Once again, hold this for as long as possible.

7. Train Your Oblique Muscles.
It's not as important to work on your oblique muscles at first, but eventually you'll want to start working these too. These are the muscles to either side of your stomach. There are multiple ways to do this and anything that includes twisting your torso against a resistance counts. There are twisting machines at gyms, you can twist while you do sit-ups, you can do side bends, you can twist side to side with a medicine ball in hand, etc. Be aware though, that many beginners tend to have weak obliques compared to their abs (it simply isn't used as much in daily life) so go easy on the sides at first.

8. Know that since it is, literally, the center of your body there are many other tricks you can use to train your abs, and some of the other movements will more or less involve your abs. Including every abdominal exercise in existence would make this article painfully long and new methods are being developed constantly. Now that you've made up your mind about a washboard mid-section, get creative! Find new ways to crunch, bend and twist in your daily life. Some possibilities include:

  • Use a stability ball. Do your crunches on the ball to introduce instability to your workout, which will improve your balance too. There are also lots of core exercises that can be done with a stability ball. You can also use a small bubble use for physical therapy.
  • Duck and twist during your daily routine. Reach with your left hand to things on your right and vice versa. If you feel like turning around to face something, see if you can do it with keeping your hips in place and twisting at the waist (warning: awkward when talking to other people, use only against inanimate objects). While walking or standing, pretend that something is coming toward you and you have to duck to get out of the way. Do this as often as you are comfortable or at times when it won't look weird. You can bend forward from the hips or, if you're really into it, bend at the knees too and really "sink" out of the way. Caution: If you have lower back problems, you could injure yourself.

9. Do the Scientific Best Abs Exercise

Researchers at the San Diego State University, found that there are certain abs exercises that triggers most muscular activity. The winner was the "bicycle maneuver":

  • Lie on the floor; make sure your lower back is pressed on the ground.
  • Take your hands behind your ears. Then bring up your knees at a 45 degree angle.
  • Start doing a bicycle pedaling motion. Touch your elbow with the opposite knee (right elbow with left knee and so on, alternating)
  • Breathe relaxed and evenly throughout the whole exercise.

Sudoku Strategy

There are different levels of Sudoku offer from each publishers, basically from easy until extreme difficult. Not only that, you Sudoku skill also measure from how fast you solve the game. Thus, many publisher not only provide the games format, but also strategies on solving the puzzle.

Basically, the strategy is focused on a combination of three processes, Scanning, Marking Up, and Analyzing. The approach to analysis may vary according to the concepts and the representations on which it is based.

Scanning
Scanning is performed at the outset and throughout the solution. Scans need be performed only once between analyses. Scanning consists of two techniques:

  • Cross-hatching: The scanning of rows to identify which line in a region may contain a certain numeral by a process of elimination. The process is repeated with the columns. It is important to perform this process systematically, checking all of the digits 1–9.
  • Counting 1–9 in regions, rows, and columns to identify missing numerals. Counting based upon the last numeral discovered may speed up the search. It also can be the case, particularly in tougher puzzles, that the best way to ascertain the value of a cell is to count in reverse—that is, by scanning the cell's region, row, and column for values it cannot be, in order to see what remains.
Advanced solvers look for "contingencies" while scanning, narrowing a numeral's location within a row, column, or region to two or three cells. When those cells lie within the same row and region, they can be used for elimination during cross-hatching and counting. Puzzles solved by scanning alone without requiring the detection of contingencies are classified as "easy"; more difficult puzzles are not readily solved by basic scanning alone.

Marking up
Scanning stops when no further numerals can be discovered, making it necessary to engage in logical analysis. One method to guide the analysis is to mark candidate numerals in the blank cells.

  • Subscript notation
In subscript notation, the candidate numerals are written in subscript in the cells. Because puzzles printed in a newspaper are too small to accommodate more than a few subscript digits of normal handwriting, solvers may create a larger copy of the puzzle. Using two colours, or mixing pencil and pen marks can be helpful.
  • Dot notation
The dot notation uses a pattern of dots in each square, where the dot position indicates a number from 1 to 9. The dot notation can be used on the original puzzle. Dexterity is required in placing the dots, since misplaced dots or inadvertent marks lead to confusion and may not be easily erased.
Another technique is to mark the numerals that a cell cannot be. The cell starts empty and as more constraints become known, it slowly fills until only one mark is missing. Assuming no mistakes are made and the marks can be overwritten with the value of a cell, there is no longer a need for any erasures.

Analysis
The two main approaches to analysis are "candidate elimination" and "what-if".

  • Candidate elimination
In "candidate elimination", progress is made by successively eliminating candidate numerals to leave one choice for a given cell. After each answer is found, another scan may be performed—usually checking to see the effect on contingencies. In general, if entering a numeral prevents completion of other empty cells, then the numeral can be eliminated as a candidate.
One method of candidate elimination works by identifying "matched cell groups". For instance, if precisely two cells within a scope (a particular row, column, or region) contain the same two candidate numerals (p,q), or if precisely three cells within a scope contain the same three candidate numerals (p,q,r), these cells are said to be matched. The placement of those candidate numerals anywhere else within the same scope would make a solution impossible, allowing the numbers to be eliminated as candidates from those other cells.
  • What-if
In the "what-if" approach (also called "guess-and-check", "bifurcation", "backtracking" and "Ariadne's thread"), a cell with two candidate numerals is selected, and a guess is made. The results are followed until a duplication is found or a cell is left without a candidate, in which case the alternative must have been the solution. For each cell's candidate, the question is posed: 'will entering a particular numeral prevent completion of the other placements of that numeral?' If 'yes', then that candidate can be eliminated. If the "what-if" exercises show that either candidate is possible, then another pair should be tried. Alternatively, if the "what-if" exercises for both candidates imply an identical result, then that result is known. The what-if approach requires a pencil and eraser or a good layout memory.
There are three kind of conflicts, which can appear during puzzle solving:
    1. Basic conflicts - there are only N-1 different candidates in N cell in the area
    2. Fish conflicts - when eliminating number from N rows/columns, it will disappear also from N+1 columns/rows.
    3. Unique conflicts - this pattern means multiple solutions, all numbers in the pattern exist exactly two times in every area, row and column. If there is only one candidate in the cell, any virtual candidate can be added.
Encountering any of those would indicate that the puzzle is not uniquely solvable. Encountering any of them as a consequence of "what-if" indicates that an untried alternative is correct.

Sudoku

What is Sudoku ?
According to definition given by wikipedia, Sudoku is " a logic-based number placement puzzle. The name Sudoku(数独) is short for "数字は独身に限る" which is read, "Sūji wa dokushin ni kagiru", meaning "the numbers must be single", or "the numbers must occur only once". The name is a trademark of puzzle publisher Nikoli Co. Ltd. in Japan. Other Japanese publishers refer to the puzzle as Number Place, the original U.S. title, or as "Nanpure"(ナンプレ) for short. Some publishers spell the title as "Su Doku".

The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 boxes (also called blocks or regions) contains the digits from 1 to 9 only one time each. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid.

Completed Sudoku puzzles are a type of Latin square, with an additional constraint on the contents of individual regions. Leonhard Euler is sometimes incorrectly cited as the source of the puzzle, based on his work with Latin squares.

The modern puzzle was invented by an American architect, Howard Garns, in 1979 and published by Dell Magazines under the name "Number Place". It became popular in Japan in 1986, after it was published by Nikoli and given the name Sudoku, meaning single number. It became an international hit in 2005."

Some History Background about Sudoku.
Number puzzles first appeared in newspapers in the late 19th century, when French puzzle setters began experimenting with removing numbers from magic squares. Le Siècle, a Paris-based daily, published a partially completed 9×9 magic square with 3×3 sub-squares in 1892. It was not a Sudoku because it contained double-digit numbers and required arithmetic rather than logic to solve, but it shared key characteristics: each row, column and sub-square added up to the same number.

Within three years Le Siècle's rival, La France, refined the puzzle so that it was almost a modern Sudoku. It simplified the 9×9 magic square puzzle so that each row and column contained only the numbers 1–9, but did not mark the sub-squares. Although they are unmarked, each 3×3 sub-square does indeed comprise the numbers 1–9. However, the puzzle cannot be considered the first Sudoku because, under modern rules, it has two solutions. The puzzle setter ensured a unique solution by requiring 1–9 to appear in both diagonals.

These weekly puzzles were a feature of newspaper titles including L'Echo de Paris for about a decade but disappeared about the time of the First World War.

According to Will Shortz, the modern Sudoku was most likely designed anonymously by Howard Garns, a 74-year-old retired architect and freelance puzzle constructor from Indiana, and first published in 1979 by Dell Magazines as Number Place (the earliest known examples of modern Sudoku). Garns's name was always present on the list of contributors in issues of Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games that included Number Place, and was always absent from issues that did not. He died in 1989 before getting a chance to see his creation as a worldwide phenomenon. It is unclear if Garns was familiar with any of the French newspapers listed above.
The puzzle was introduced in Japan by Nikoli in the paper Monthly Nikolist in April 1984 as Suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru (数字は独身に限る, Suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru?), which can be translated as "the digits must be single" or "the digits are limited to one occurrence." At a later date, the name was abbreviated to Sudoku by Maki Kaji (鍜治 真起, Kaji Maki?), taking only the first kanji of compound words to form a shorter version. In 1986, Nikoli introduced two innovations: the number of givens was restricted to no more than 32, and puzzles became "symmetrical" (meaning the givens were distributed in rotationally symmetric cells). Knowing that British newspapers have a long history of publishing crosswords and other puzzles, he promoted Sudoku to The Times in Britain, which launched it on 12 November 2004 (calling it Su Doku).

The rapid rise of Sudoku in Britain from relative obscurity to a front-page feature in national newspapers attracted commentary in the media and parody (such as when The Guardian's G2 section advertised itself as the first newspaper supplement with a Sudoku grid on every page). Recognizing the different psychological appeals of easy and difficult puzzles, The Times introduced both side by side on 20 June 2005. From July 2005, Channel 4 included a daily Sudoku game in their Teletext service. On 2 August, the BBC's programme guide Radio Times featured a weekly Super Sudoku.

Even the Greeks owe the publication of their first Sudoku magazine to British influence. It was at Heathrow airport in the summer of 2005 that a Greek computer magazine publisher first laid eyes on a British Sudoku magazine and - realizing the opportunity - proceeded to purchase the necessary software and quickly launch the first local Sudoku magazine that became an instant success.

In the United States, the first newspaper to publish a Sudoku puzzle by Wayne Gould was The Conway Daily Sun (New Hampshire), in 2004.

The world's first live TV Sudoku show, Sudoku Live, was a puzzle contest first broadcast on 1 July 2005 on Sky One. It was presented by Carol Vorderman. Nine teams of nine players (with one celebrity in each team) representing geographical regions competed to solve a puzzle. Each player had a hand-held device for entering numbers corresponding to answers for four cells. Phil Kollin of Winchelsea, England was the series grand prize winner taking home over £23,000 over a series of games. The audience at home was in a separate interactive competition, which was won by Hannah Withey of Cheshire.

Later in 2005, the BBC launched SUDO-Q, a game show that combines Sudoku with general knowledge. However, it uses only 4x4 and 6x6 puzzles.

Sudoku software is now also very popular on PCs, websites, and mobile phones. It comes with many distributions of Linux. It has also been released on portable video game handhelds such as the Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, the Game Boy Advance, and even on several iPod models. One of the most popular video games featuring Sudoku is Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!. Critically and commercially well received, it generated particular praise for its Sudoku implementation and sold more than 8 million copies worldwide. Due to its popularity, Nintendo made a second Brain Age game titled Brain Age2, which has over 100 new sudoku puzzles and other activities.
